After joining a dog walking group, attending a walk and vowing never to go again because 'everyone'with a dog is a dog trainer i've just committed my own giving advice faux pas.

I have had enormous success with a front/side lead harness. It gave me the opportunity to get my lurcher where I wanted her consistantly during lead training. so good infact i now only use this very rarely and really only to give her neck a break.

To cut along story short neighbours have new rescue who is a really severe puller. I suggested they try front /side harness and before i knew what i was doing i had gone and got it and fitted it. Wife seemed happy but suggested husband wouldnt be keen. Several more akward silence and i suggested they try it befote potentially ordering one (honestly you would of been able to tell the difference between me and an ancol rep!)

Honestly im at home now hanging my head in shame wondering how i get my harness back without causing further offence lol.

Whats the worst thing youve said about somebodies technique /dog and then wished the ground would swallow you?

Life is full of whoping great holes, oh how I have wished so many times that they would swallow me up too !!!!

I frequently speak my mind without meaning offence, yet there is always someone out there who thrives on causing a problem on how it was said.

I can't always dig a hole big enough for myself.

I find that I "shut down for a while and just keep quiet ! until I feel brave enough to pop up again. Shouldn't be like that though!

If it is in the best interest of the dog then I don't care if I upset people.

Have been nagging a chap in our village to try a head collar on his Labrador for months and months. He got pulled over (he is probably 70+) got knocked out and smashed his nose and still the dog was in a neck collar. He got pulled over again and decided to try it. The dog now walks very calmly beside. Turns out his wife thought that head collars were cruel.

My next mission is get the dog some proper exercise by getting the old boy to let him off lead. Not holding my breath for that one though...
