ONYX
**UPDATED: MAY 2012**
The lovely Onyx is a 7 year old ex-racing greyhound lady who was also used for breeding after her racing career ended. She is now well and truly deserving of her forever sofa. Onyx is a lovely sleek-coated hound with a very distinguished, silvering face. She has a very regal expression but is also very soft and loving.
~ Personality ~
Onyx is very much your typical greyhound – gentle, loving, calm and contented. She is happy to simply sit in the sun and relax, and doesn’t ask for anything other than love. Now that she has just moved into foster care, she is soaking up all the comforts and human contact that she can get, but isn’t demanding about it. She is simply a beautiful dog, both inside and out, and is sure to make someone a very lucky greyhound owner.
~ In the Home ~
Onyx has just recently moved into a foster home and is now experiencing the home comforts for the first time in her 7 years. She is doing very well and is learning the house rules at a steady pace. We will update with her progress very soon.
~ Other Animals ~
Onyx gets on splendidly with the other dogs in her foster home, which include another greyhound and a weimeraner x. She is very happy to share her space with them, and is learning the do’s and don’ts of the home life from them. This lovely lady has not been tested with small dogs but this will be assessed very soon. She is not cat friendly.
~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Onyx will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. She walks well on the lead and is a joy to have with you.
~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
~ Where Am I? ~
Onyx is being fostered in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to her foster home to meet her.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Onyx is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in adopting Onyx, please visit our website’s KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK[/B] ~~
Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.
Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.
