ORION

**UPDATED: MAY 2013**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Orion would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family.

Key Points: Beautiful boy inside & out, friendly, social, calm, gentle, soft, happy to follow direction, very easy, walks to heel, good traveller.

Please meet Orion the galaxy dog, and form an orderly queue!! Orion is a beautiful 2 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who was no longer wanted by his trainer when he wasn’t fast enough on the track. We know he is very much wanted, however, as a loving family pet! Orion has a very stunning black coat with white speckles all over – he really does look like a walking galaxy. Orion’s coat is rather dull at the moment, and we can't wait to see a healthy shine come into it to make his stars sparkle even brighter.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Beautiful boy, friendly, engaging, soft, gentle, loving, laid back, easy-going, happy to follow your lead.

Orion is a really fabulous boy who has so much to give. He is laid back and takes on an easy going, nonplussed attitude that makes him really lovely to handle. He is very gentle and affectionate with people and soaks up any bit of fuss like a sponge. He is engaging and responsive, bright and chillaxed. This boy is a total gem and needs a special family who will spoil and cherish him appropriately! We can't wait to see Orion in a family where he’s finally getting all the love and cuddles that he craves.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Not yet in a home environment.

Orion has sadly not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. This boy is so accepting and chilled about everything, we expect him to settle into the home life as though he was always there.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Excellent with other greyhounds & lurchers, to be tested with small dogs soon.

Orion has been very good with the other greyhounds and lurchers in our kennels so far, and enjoys his romp in the paddock. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs but this will be done soon.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walks to heel, responsive to the lead, very friendly and social.

Orion walks like a gem on the lead and trots happily alongside you. He is responsive to the lead and stops at the slightest pressure. Orion also travels brilliantly in the car, the motion seems to put him into a trance!

Like most greyhounds, Orion is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week, after some work has been done on his recall.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are very calm, mannerly dogs that are used to being handled. They can fit into a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Am I? ~

Orion is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Orion is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Orion, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering Orion, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html .

Thank you.

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:

Email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk. Emails are usually replied to within 24hrs.
