Just to let you all know that my "walking-vet-bill" has been at it again. Reggie has managed to break a toe on his back foot. At the moment, we're keeping everything crossed it will heel nicely and he will not have to have his toe amputated (EURGH!!)

This brings his total vet bills up to about £4000+ and still counting. Not saying he's accident prone or anything, just a shame he's not insured!

Hope to see some of you folk at Bournemouth tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that, we were in the same position a few months ago, it was a very bad, complex break/dislocation and it was odds on it might have to be amputated. Luckily it seems to have healed very well and our dog is now running again and enjoying life to the full.

:luck: for an equally good recovery

Poor Reggie :huggles: :huggles:

And I feel for your bank account as well

We were just out having our normal walk. Stan was playing around with a yound GSD, and for some strange reason, Reggie decided he might have a play with it himself (something he very rarely does these days).. so they went running off into the long grass together, and then Reg came back on three legs with his outside toe nail sticking out at 90 degrees! thought he might have ripped his nail out, then thought it may be just dislocated, but no such luck.

It's on the same leg which he broke a few years back. I worry 'cos he lops about on three legs, putting more strain on the other back leg. That's what I think happened last time, because he busted all the ligaments in the other one shortly after the break had healed. That took weeks to put right. He can't have a cast of any sort because he always reacts badly to it, and he can't have rimadyl or similar painkillers because they react with his steroids. So he has to have codeine which can make him hallucinate and get constipated!

Such is life, Reg is always there to prove us all wrong! Considering he should have been 6 feet under 5 years ago, and then again 4 years ago. He's made of stronger stuff than a rubbish old broken toe!

Reg says thanks for all your kind words, he's laid here beside me now, (picture attached!)

Gawd Louise he don't have much luck does he. :huggles:

I hope that you are having a good day at Bournemouth :luck:

Awww poor Reggie :( Completely missed this thread - he definitely is made of a tonne of determination and sure the silly toe won't stop him.

Lots of :huggles: to Reggie - at least he can lie and remember is fantastic success in teh fastest bonio eating competition at the Fun Day (again!!) :huggles:

Yes, I think possibly that the several weeks of intense training for the Fastest Bonio Eating contest may have put too much pressure on his litlle bones (haha) He may be old with rubbish blood and dodgy calcium, but he's got the appetite of a monster! Side affect from the steroids - he never used to be a greedy dog, but will eat anything and everything now. It's tough keeping his weight on the level, but I control it much better than I do my own!!

He is now sporting a purple bandage, we're planning on trying the full colour range over the next three weeks - but maybe give the pink a miss!

Thank you all

Louise
