i took my 6yr old male king charles cavalier to the vets today to have a look at a cyst on his paw. whie we were waiting the receptionist asked me to put him on the scales . he weighed 17kg i new he was overweight but not by this much, just wondered if anyone else has a dog this overweight, he goes on 4 twenty mins walk a day.

Isnt it the ticker thats the problem in that breed? 17 kg is a bit high but 4 walks is ok so cut the food a bit then should be ok,

My old beagle was overweight and very lazy!! I put her on Royal Canin Obesity food, weighed out her rations every day absolutely no treats or extra food what so ever, and encouraged her to get more active, we would get her to run between myself and my husband for toys and play more with her (she was walked already for a minimum of 2 hrs per day, but only walked never trotted or ran anywhere) over a couple of months she lost 4kgs in weight and was a much healthier wee dog as a result. Good luck with your dogs diet :luck:

Geez 4kg is a lot in a couple of months murphy, i went down a slower route 5 or 6 pound over a 7 month period which i thought was safer but then again i wasnt looking to lose big amounts.. But agree with murphs on the exersize, get the dog active and happy dog you will get.

I think 4kg isn´t too much. Healthy meals like this healthfood24.co.uk will help to reduce the weight. Is your dog lazy or active? If he is more active, he will eat more. Good luck ;)

4 kg in two months is a lot, try doing it yourself and you will see..
