OZZY
**UPDATED: MAY 2012**
Meet little Ozzy. He is a 10 month old lurcher pup who was found straying in an awful state in Ireland before being kindly taken in by a rescue there. He was very underweight, had bad mange, and was terrified that something bad was going to happen to him. Just 4 weeks on, though, and he has completely transformed. All he needed was some good food, TLC and mange treatment.
Ozzy has very quickly developed into a beautiful young lurcher, possibly a saluki x. He is a very handsome little chap, with intelligent eyes and black & tan markings that make him look a bit like a teeny tiny Doberman. He is guaranteed to make someone a fantastic friend.
~ Personality ~
This little guy is just super. There's very few bad things about him, he is a real gem with literally oodles of potential for whomever gives him a home. Ozzy has made his way from Ireland to the UK, and has melted every single heart he’s met along the way. He is extremely affectionate and a very fast learner – already his recall is excellent and he has learned ‘sit’ and ‘fetch’ during his 4 week stay at his foster home. He has also gained hugely in confidence and is very happy and relaxed now. He is very gentle with people, especially children and seems to have a special fondness for them. He will go out of his way to meet young children if possible when out on his walks, but is never bouncy or bitey with them.
~ In the Home ~
Ozzy has been in a foster home since he was first rescued off the streets. He is a brilliant little man in the home and took to the home environment like a duck to water. He is very eager to learn the do’s and don’ts. He has stopped jumping up and doesn’t pay attention to food or counter tops anymore, even though he is a very hungry little guy.
Despite being just a wee puppy with no previous training, Ozzy is already sleeping through the night in his crate and toilets when brought outside on a regular basis. Please note though that he may possibly have an accident or two when he first moves into the new home, simply due to the stresses involved in the move.
Ozzy has had a bit of an upset tummy which may be linked to his rough start to life. He is now on a prescription diet for sensitive digestive systems and he is definitely doing better. This will need to be taken into consideration if interested in adopting him as this tummy upset may flare up briefly when he moves house, again due to stress.
~ Other Animals ~
Ozzy is a super social little guy and loves his doggie friends. He is also cat friendly and has lived with a cat in his foster home with no problems at all. Being a young pup, Ozzy is still learning how to behave. Though very gentle with children, he can sometimes get a bit over the top when playing with other dogs. This is easily stopped by breaking up the play session, and Ozzy will also listen if told off by another dog for being too rough. Apart from his occasional overexcitement, this young pooch is a super dog who would be an absolute perfect family dog.
~ Out and About ~
Ozzy is fantastic when out on his walks, he is so well behaved and is friendly to everyone. He has now learned to walk to heel, and never pulls though very keen to explore this big wide world around him.
~ Where Can I Live? ~
Ozzy’s absolute ideal home would be a family with children to play with him, and perhaps another energetic dog to tire out all that young energy. He can live with cats, and if introduced properly he could probably be taught to coexist with other small animals. Being a young puppy, Ozzy will need a home with someone at home so that he’s not left alone for hours at a time.
This young hound has so much potential and at this age can adapt to just about any home. Ozzy is growing into a beautiful adolescent hound and is guaranteed to give back tenfold what he receives.
~ Where Am I? ~
Ozzy is currently in a foster home in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to his foster home to meet him.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Ozzy is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
PLEASE NOTE: Ozzy has not yet been neutered as he has been too poorly to risk the procedure. This is something that his adopters will need to have done as part of his adoption contract in the near future when he’s fully recovered from his poor start, and Kerry Greyhounds UK will require proof that it has been done.
If you are interested in adopting Ozzy, please visit our website’s KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK[/B] ~~
Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.
Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.
