I've just started doing some voluntary work at an animal sanctuary & have been working with a couple of the dogs in particular.
Today was only my 3rd meeting with them but already we seem to be making progress.
The first dog Leo (GSD X) was very nervous when I first met him & he barked at me a lot. Now he is wagging his tail & has started to interact with me. He will play with a fetch toy & is wagging his tail much more. He is fine once he gets to know people so should find a home with someone who will give him time to adapt.
Paddy (Black Lab X Staffy or Rotty) is only a youngster but is a big solid dog who does not know that he shouldn't jump up & mug people. My arms are now a lovely yellow colour with last weeks bruising where he grabbed me with his mouth
So yesterday I put a muzzle on him to begin with & he didn't jump at me at all. So I chanced taking it off.....once I'd donned my Motorcross issue arm protectors.....very fetching :- "
He was a lot better than the previous time but still mugged my (armour plated) arms.a bit.
Today he was 100% better again. I put the arm protectors on but left his muzzle off as I'm doing clicker training & it's really difficult trying to post a treat in through the mesh of the muzzle every time he is a good boy & not jumping up.
I only did 15 mins today as he was being so good I didn't want to push it & give him chance to get fed up & start misbehaving again.
So things are looking good. He is a smart dog & hopefully it will sink in that he's not allowed to be a total hooligan anymore
He is a really nice dog & I'm just glad he looks nothing like a lurcher so I don't have to talk myself out of wanting him
