Hi I am new hear and not strictly a dog owner. I do dog sit my daughters dog who has recently taken ill. Her dog started vomiting the water she drank and as it was hot I took her to the vet because I was worried about dehydration. cutting a long story short the dog has been diagnoses with pancreatitis given drugs and after a three day stay at the vets sent home. The dog still vomits only not so much. She is very quiet and sad looking. This has upset me so much, can any of you experienced dog owners tell me if this goes on for sometime. I wanted to return her to the vets but my daughter says the dog just needs rest.

oh you poor thing, there are a number of people on here who have first hand experience of pancreatitis in their dogs, someone will be along shortly i imagine with some good advice.

I imagine that she will be feeling very poorly and will need lots of rest, being at home is probably best for her, as long as she is able to keep some water down, in this warm weather. I think it will take a while for her to start to feel better, i'd whip her back to the vet if she doesn't improve over the next few days, or if you think she isn't keeping hydrated. Must be awful for you all, its terrible to feel so helpless when your pet is poorly. I hope someone comes along soon with some proper advice; i imagine the vet spoke to your daughter about special food and gave her some idea of the outlook, and when to bring her back in if she doesn't improve? good luck to you all, (pat pat for the poorly wee doggy)

Hi Hanneroon

Thank you for the words of care. My daughter phoned this evening to say her dog was a little more perky today, still some small amount of vomit after drinking. She tested for dehydration, something about pinching and pulling up the skin of the neck. She says the dog is ok. she has booked a follow-up appointment so I am a little happier.
