Hi All,
Just to let anyone who is interested know – Paula is getting a big sister when we come back from a visit to UK at the beginning of October. Molly, who is a retired racing greyhound that my son and I have owned since she was a baby is coming to live with us. She is a big softie and has always been a pet, even when she was racing.
However, I wasn’t too sure that Molly would make the ideal friend for Paula as she is a bit ’sharp’ with other dogs and inclined to be dominant but she came for a visit the other day and again today and they had a blast!
They were puffing and panting like a pair of bull mastiffs after about half an hour of tearing around the garden. After Paula had been told off a few times, she started to behave and stopped trying to jump all over Molly (which is not a good idea!) We put a muzzle on Molly for the first few minutes just to keep Paula safe but I took it off as soon as I realised that Paula understood Molly’s warnings and stopped trying to bite her legs and ears! So, the first couple of meetings have been pretty good, apart from Molly cramping up due to not being fit – she hasn’t raced for a year or so and had become a bit of a couch potato. But a few weeks with Paula charging round the garden will soon sort that out!
So, when we come back from our holiday, Molly will be moving in with us – I may have to buy a new bed (for me) as Paula takes up such a lot of room and Molly is twice her size. But we’ll just have to see how it goes. N.B. The photograph is the only one I could get that wasn’t a blur…
