Having been a greyhound owner for many years, I am keen to explore the possibilities of owning a whippet (as a pet, but to enjoy the sport too). Since moving to Scotland (from London) the opportunities for owning and racing greyhounds under NGRC rules are very limited – I currently have runners at Sunderland but feel rather detached!

I’m doing much research and ordering books, and having found the Whippet Club Racing Association referenced on the Internet, I've written to the secretary.

I would really appreciate a steer in respect of many things, for example:

The most popular magazines; the most successful stud dogs; breeders of racing pedigree whippets etc.

All information greatly received, regards

Tim.

Do you definatly want to run pedigree Whippets ?? (w00t) .......The most succesful pedigree stud was the great wcrch Striker, you'll find that he's in most ped racers pedigree's ......There is a pedigree racing club in Scotland (you'll find details in the "clubs and sociaties" page on this board.

You'll probably do better waiting for Judy or Beejay to answer these questions as they are both very knowledgable

Caledonian is gonna be the nearest but you're more than welcome coming down to the Northern!

Regards,

Scott.

There are actually 2 Pedigree Whippet racing clubs in Scotland,(shame on you lot only saying there was 1 ;) ) The Scotich PWRC is the 1 that has been going the longest (around 20 years I beleave) and the Caledonian Thistle was set up around 4 years ago.

both are nice freindly Clubs and both run on Sunday mornings/afternoons.

i'll Pm you the contact details of the 2 secretarys, and as Scotts already said if you fancy a ride out why not have a ride down to the Northern.

The Northern has an Open race meeting on the 2nd May so you would see many differant types of race bred whippets at it.

Thank you for your responses, much appreciated, regards

Tim.

Tim, I have sent you a PM with the number for the editor of Whippet News. Can't remember off hand how much the subscription is. Around £30 fo a year I think.
