is it possable for a pedigree racing whippet not to be a true pedigree . could a breeder put it to a non ped and say it was from a full ped.

Its possible, it depends on how honest people are. You could quite easily chuck a non ped dog over a ped bitch and say that a ped dog mated it. Especially if you own loads of dogs and bitches of ped and non ped breeding and mated at home with no witnesses.

They could do *IF* they wanted to cheat ........but as most people could spot a non ped as they look and are built completely differently, plus the running gait of a peddie and non ped are also different ........then I think the breeder would be a tad stupid ........BUT if you have any concerns that there ar non peds competing then I'd suggest you contact the WCRA and get the dog/dogs DNA tested as theres nothing worse than nasty rumors starting

How would Squizzles question start a nasty rumour Hannah????? No one or any dogs have been mentioned

Trust me Dan .. rumours have been started on far less than that!

It IS an intriguing subject though. Personally I'm convinced that there have been some less than truthful breedings in our sport's past. Nothing I can substantiate of course and therefore just supposition on my part. But based on what I have seen and heard and taking into account plain, old, human characteristics like envy, greed, jealousy etc. I'd be amazed if it HADN'T been tried.

That's where the non-peddies have a much clearer, and better ideal, in a way - if cross breeding is legal then there is no "crime" as such. Don't get me wrong, I'm as proud of my dog's pedigree's as anyone and I'd like to think they are as pure as a show-bred (which in part they are, or were) but it's naive to think that no one WOULD introduce a crossbreed when the advantages are obvious and discovery is so very unlikely!

I can belive rumours have been started by less. :- "

Its sad if people do feel the need to cheat just for glory. Bad sportsmanship in my opinion.

Shame Dan isn't it? I believe that the breeding behind Fynn going back (Started by Billie Mackenzie and Linda Wren in the 1980's) caused some debate, it was all nasty rumour. The line was MacArthur and the foundation bitch was Mastermind. From her came dogs like Gracious, she was a 30lb speed machine and became a WCRCh at 14 months old. I think jealously can be the downside of racing in this competitive sport and if some-one has a good dog, some folk just won't accept that and want to find fault.

Jealousy (w00t) .....surely not 8) .....I've never heard anything so outrageous :b

I think it's naive to think you would spot a ped x non ped a mile off. *some* of the smaller non peds wouldn't look out of place against the small peds (apart from the obvious time difference).

Some of the small non peds have been bred small for years and years going back in their "pedigrees" so put across a ped whippet it's highly unlikely you'd get anything that size wise would stand out.

However you put a 30lber over a ped whippet i think you'd be able to spot the outcross - you just don't know whether they'd throw to the ped side or the non ped side.

LOL at you  :huggles:

I have seen many non ped whippets that could pass for peds, and I've also seen some peds at opens this year that wouldn't look out of place at a non ped meeting  We have to go on the honesty of the racing people, and if people feel the need to cheat, then they're pretty sad :(

I think thats mine and most peoples thoughts on the subject June, and if people are cheating then they should feel dam right ashamed of there selfs
