PERCY
Percy is a 20 month old greyhound boy who never had any interest in the racing life. He is a lovely big boy with a white coat and fawn patches and a very pretty face.
Percy is friendly with people but is very gentle and placid considering his age. He likes to play in short bursts and then is content to laze away in the sun. He would do very well in a family home with children or perhaps another dog to play with him and keep him company during the day.
Percy behaves well with other dogs, large and small and is very polite in meeting them. He may be suitable to live in a home with cats as he doesnt have a strong chase instinct and once when he got out into a field with chickens he showed no interest in them at all. So if not cat friendly he is definitely chicken friendly! Percy will be tested thoroughly with cats before we class him as cat trainable, however, and he is now on the waiting list to go into a foster home with cats to see how he will behave when living with them.
Percy has not yet experienced living in a home, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding during the first couple of weeks and allow him time to get accustomed to the home environment. It usually takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.
Like most greyhounds, Percy will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs who are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also dont shed as much as other dog breeds such as retrievers or labradors, and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
This gorgeous boy is currently being kenneled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting the lovely Percy, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our information pack and adoption questionnaire which must be filled out prior to adoption. Thanks!
