I have been away for the past week, on New Year's Day Mum phoned me to tell me Kerri (6½ year old non-ped) had been sick in the morning, white phlemy stuff and refused to eat her dinner, only eating half of it later on in the day (she is not overfed as if she doesn't eat her dinner she is not given something else instead).

I returned home on the 3rd and on the morning of the 4th she was sick again and also this morning, same white phlem with her doing the "washing machine" routine in the garden (retch retch retch). She didn't refuse her food yesterday though she only had a small meal and none of them are being fed today.

Just wondered if anyone has any idea as to why she is being sick, not every day, but only in the mornings, could her puking be upsetting her so she won't eat or is she reluctant to eat because she is unwell ?

Sounds like she is hungry to me or maybe has colic type pains. Why are they not being fed today???

Do you feed your dogs 1 meal a day or is it split in 2 meals?

We have one that if she dosn't have a small meal in the morning she doesn't eat her 1 o'clock feed and lies front legs down back legs standing and contracts her body, stomach makes funny noises.

We feed all our dogs in 2 smaller meals which is easier on the stomach.

Kerri has had one meal per day for about 5 years, she's always been fine. The morning she refused her food she was offered it before she was sick. Other than this she's running about like she's six years going on six months, more umph than she's had since she was in pup 11 months ago.

Can't work it out as her 3 year old daughters and her 5 year old kennelmate are absolutely fine.

One person's theory is that she thinks she's in pup (which is impossible) but her daughters have just been in season and her kennelmate is 3 weeks from what we think was an UNsuccessful mating. Don't know how plausible this could be :b . She is the only bitch we've bred from (once in 2005 and once in 2007) she was in season in September 2007 right on cue as her 2nd litter were 7mths old.

To be honest it could be anything. The white frothy stuff does sound as though her stomach may be too empty and is irritated, maybe try giving her a small 'breakfast' for a few days and see if that helps?

The other thing is could she have eaten something that might be irritating her stomach or have caused a partial blockage?

If any of mine have an upset stomach I usually restrict them to a very bland food like chicken and rice or Chappie for a couple of days, but if it goes on for more than a few days I'd be inclined to get them checked out to be on the safe side.
