Hello everyone.

I've had my whippet 2 weeks and I am a bit asthmatic, as a result. :( Am taking anti histamine and some asthma medication ( ventolin) - this deals with it.

But what I want to do is cut down on having the allergic reaction in the first place. I bought something called 'allerpet' to put on the dog after grooming, and we shall see if that cuts down on the allergic reaction.

What I wanted to ask you is this

Do any of you Air Purifiers, and if so, do you feel the benefit, and which one would you recommend?

Also, have any of you had success with alternative approaches like homeopathy or acupuncture?

Thanks everyone, and HAPPY CHRISTMAS.

a friend i babysat for, all 4 of her kids suffer with it, as does she, found not having carpeting helped. nothing for stray strands of fur to cling to. plus no animals upstairs, ever, meant her family had a fur free night, letting them recover.

i actually am allergic to my pets too....and was advised to replace my laminate flooring with carpet as the carpet actually filters the allergens?

i wipe both my dogs over with an allergy wipe and do not groom them personally(my husband does)...i shampoo them with an allrergy shampoo on occasion too.

i found the boots air ioniser quite good...but i actually took part in a trial at wythenshawe hospital with a dyson and ioniser/purifier to see which was most effective and the dyson animal won!

i take various flower/herbal remedies but i cant say they work or not really...hope this helps?

I think it is betterware that do a spray that you can do the furniture with and your carpets etc? im allergic to most pets but use a steriod spray, my fella was very very allergic and his throat would close with horse dust and i used that in the car and he still had a reaction but no where near the extreme without the spray? hope that helps, the pet wipes are useful too

I have dog and cat allergies, but I've never had a problem with my own dogs. I've always found after a short period of time I've tended to build up a tolerance.

Just a thought - hope that it works for you.

Wendy

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I'm ordering the betterware sprays. thanks tanya, I googled and soon I will get it in the post!

The Animal Dyson hoover is lotta money! I will investigate.

masta, I'm really grateful for that link to that hospital. I think if all the other things dont do the trick, I will fall back on that - it looks expensive, but quite impressive. I think I'll have to do some research to try finding out their success rates.

I am hoping that the allergy passes. So far, it is getting a bit worse rather than receding. I really want to minimise it so I can get a pal for Echo - but two dogs is a double dander situation = double the wheezing, I suppose.

cheers everyone
