Hi im just curious to know what everyone does with either bully or xracers when they cant run? If you go give them to pet homes are they friends and family or do you advertise? Thanks :)

If we breed a pup which is a true bull,we advertise it for a pet home, and they always go to good homes!!, as far as xracers go,call me soppy but I feel they can stay with us for life, (that is if they get to 5+.).

Apart from selling pups, we have rehomed 3 of our dogs, barney who weighed 20lb went to live with a cousin, he has aromatherapy massages and baths every week:biggrin:, dill went at 10mths to tonys mum, he is now 20lb overweight and his fav food is battenburg cake!!! and finally misty(agile moo), the problem with misty was that every time she raced she busted a toe:sad:, we were'nt planning on letting her go, till one day a lady called marion rang and asked if a had a bitch whippet available for her to have as a pet, misty and I met marion and we both really liked her!!!, so that night off misty went in a new mercedes to live in a detached bungalow with an acre garden(how lucky).

The moral of this story is you can always find good pet homes, vet the owners and see if you like them!!, also north-est whippet rescue and JR whippet rescue usually have people waiting for whippets!!!

The same goes for any of our whippets that go to a pet home (not just bulls).

I have advertised in the past but wouldn't do it again i think the problem was i didn't want payment for the dog in question where as if i had asked for quite a bit of money the person would have been more willing to treat him right (the man kept phoning me up asking strange questions about the dog and we then got the impression that he might be a Gypsy) in the end i phoned the man up and said that the little girl who's dog it was was fretting (their was no little girl), he  duly brought him straight back - so he wasn't that bad after all (its funny though because since then the dogs has improved his times over 150yds by about half a second which is great).

The other dogs i have let go to pet homes have mostly been through a friend of a friend etc and all have happy lives.  Here's a few of their stories:

BESS (bully) now lives with a mega rich spinster in a fancy house and sleeps on the bed etc

FINN went to a friend and went caravanning every weekend all over the country, he also slept on the bed until he developed a twisted gut and neede an operation which cost his owners £3000, six months later he developed the same problem resulting in another large operation which he duly had, a few weeks later he suffered bad heart problems and couldn't be operated on because he wouldn't make it through the stress, sadly he had to be put to sleep.

ESTHER now lives with a family of 5 and has full run of their large garden

MISSIE went to a man who wanted a replacement for a whippet they had just lost, she is now the boss over their 70lb greyhound.

Whenever you let a dog go to someone else be it an adult or a pup you don't have long to decide whether you like the person or not (if they're not family) and you have to go with your gut instinct, it's a risk you take as you just never know, no matter what 1st impressions of the new owners are.

I let a women have a pup 5 years ago and she said she had a large garden and lived in Cumbria, she had just had to have an old whippet put to sleep, she came and picked the pup up and was lovely it was only when she started sending me photos of the pup in the garden that i realised she wasn't joking when she said she had a big garden, her garden was the cumbrian fells and her house was fabulous, a year later she had another pup off me and we went to drop him off at her house, it really does take your breath away, she has always kept in touch and dotes on the two dogs who are gorgeous and love their mum to bits.   They also go on 15 mile fell walks every sunday with her husband and 5 other men and are both unsurprisingly as fit as fiddles.

If you have family members who are willing to take a dog off you then go for it, you are guaranteed to see it regular.

hi  my last dog  punch box (micks mystery x sexy mover) went to a pet home, as a couple came for apup from me

we just got talking ,he said he only wanted one as a pet

and as we were going to find punch box a new home , i asked if he,d like him instead of a pup,but his wife liked

him soon as she saw him,so they took a pup and tyson
