Hello! I'm getting a dog, a 2yr old mixed called Sally (she is soooooo cute), from a friend who was struggling to look after her. Need some insurance but not sure who to go with. Anyone had any really good experiences with one? Also, is there anyone I should avoid? Thank you! :)

Look for one with lifetime cover - if your dog develops a long term condition, you don't want them to stop covering it after the first year.

Well done for choosing to insure your dog. The last two dogs I had both racked up thousands of pounds in vets fees. One was injury prone while the other had Addisons disease.

I had good experience of Asda with both dogs but their limits are a bit low. We ran out of cover after four years of claiming for Addisons. I thought I had lifetime cover, which renews cover each year, but it was a maximum benefit policy. Be very careful to check and check again that it is lifetime cover as they are very clever at wording it to make it seem as though that is what you are getting.

Vets often recommend Pet Plan. They are the market leaders but are also quite expensive. I have also heard that John Lewis is very good. I away from home at the moment but I think my current plan is with More Than. It ran Pet Plan very close for cover but was a bit cheaper.

Thanks! Is there anyone who's particularly bad that I should stay away from?
