Sorry, don't have a camera good enough for action shots, but i did manage some gallery shots while waiting for our judge to change locations and some others while waiting for the results to be tallied and finals to begin.

Remember, our whippets are a wee bit bigger than yours. :- ))

Looks like nice weather, some good looking dogs in the pics.

Looked like a good day out :D .......Are your coursing and racing Whippets the same type/dogs, or have they become different types like ours ??........It's very difficult to get into coursing over here, and at a lot of clubs the racing blood isn't liked :(

Weather depends where you course.

Here's a pic. from Thanksgiving. Myself and a mate bumped eleven hares in this spot in under two hours. Most were flushed by our Border and Dachshund.

Our whippets are a bit bigger because our standard was changed many years ago to reflect a different type of whippet.

I like the little ones myself, but since we race in this country off of scratch with dogs and bitches together, we have ended up with a pretty big sturdy dog for the most part. We still have smaller ones of course, but they all run head to head at racing so its no wonder many people choose the bigger ones to compete with.

As for coursing, any registered whippet is eligible for competition in a hunt. No memberships required. Almost all the whippets that course are race bred although everyone is welcome. The serious coursers have race bred dogs mainly because it's a very long day in the field and the better the chances of your dog doing well, the more likely one is to choose a dog bred for racing/coursing.

This past weekend, we had one show champion entered in fact. The other entries were all race bred dogs. Most of us also tend to course our bigger dogs. I own a few little ones but choose not to run them in favor of my bigger dogs. As it turned out though, we got fogged in all day so none of us got to run. We had well over 20 whippets entered but a couple of dogs scratched when they heard the weather forecast but we still have a dozen people and 18 dogs standing around in the fog swapping stories until we all packed it in and went to a Mexican restaurant for margarita's and hot food. Almost as good as coursing.

I should have said flushed!

We were elated to find so many hares as they have been thin on the ground for the past several years. This part of Wyoming experienced a very cool Summer. This may have had something to do with the increase in numbers. I also noticed fewer than usual eagles around so that may have helped too. No one really knows what influences Jackrabbit numbers. We coursed four or five of the ones we flushed before the dogs got tired.

We were then forced to retire to the bar of The Virginian Hotel for some grub and liquid refreshment! All the food was free for Thanksgiving. A turkey dinner goes down well after a Morning in the cold, not to mention spiced rum!!

The place hasn't changed in years. (Neither has the menu. Gourmet it ain't!!)
