Didn't take any show pix.As it poured down, with barely a break. But all in all,a good turnout of dogs, from all parts of the island of Ireland. Some very fine looking rough coated breeds, and some reay classy looking smooth hounds. When the final came up.Of which our Reni took her place also.Having won the over 23 inch smooth class. There were little hairs standing on end,as it was anybody's guess,as to who Matt Lee,(the surprise judge)had in mind, for the overall champion.None other than the great looking Rico, who has rulled the show ring this year, since almost the very 1st show, till the very last one. This dog has a hunger for trophie's,and today he had his shopping list all done n dusted. But this was not just his last lurcher championship of the yeay.It was also the 1st time for him to take the overall show championship, which has evaded him on a few occasions this year, with the terrier nipping in to rob him each time. Not this one though. In the racing department,we had a few greyhounds try their luck at beating the lurchers up the field. But a few keen eye's soon spotted this, and they were given an early exit.John's big Colt, beat our own bitch in the heat, and again in the final. But it looked close at one stage,as Reni was ever closing, but hadn't got the fittness, owing to her doin her toe a bit of ligament damage 3 weeks ago,and needing a few runs,to oosin her up again. She also had a short 5 day season,3 weeks ago too.But to beat Colt, you need to be 100% fit and ready,as he's a force on his own,and 80 lb of power, which is hard to topple by even fit n ready dogs.He also was running with a bleeding foot, which didn't hold him back, the way he was running.A well deserved victory John, and maybe his last, this side of the Irish sea,as i heard John say he was retiring him now. Then we came to the unders racing, and i must say.were treated to quite a show of pace ,by none other than the flying China, who is gona be a hard nut to crack, for a year or 2 yet.In the whippets,it was a battle of the sex's,with Lizz,n Eddie's 2 whippets, putting each other to the test.Think Eddie was over the moon, with the result.Youre getting close Lizz.Next day there was to be no racing. But due to a misprint,in the Countryman's Weekly, and a number of the top dogs from southern Ireland turning up.It was decided to gave them what they came for,and they had their racing. This time Colt wasn't eentered, owing to the cut on his foot.Reni got toppled, early into her heat,as she crossed in front of them for some reason, after taking an early lead, and was toppled by one of the dogs that she ran in front off.Came off injury free,so i was happy enough. We had taken Scruff with us.Who hadnt been out the kennel in over a year, and hadn't seen a lure, since June last year. Was Hoping to find him a new home, but although i had plenty offers, there was no one who i felt i could let him go to,and decided against rehoming him.We reconed we'd give him a wee run, just for the craic, and did he surprise me or what.by reaching, and coming 3rd in the final. Will be doing a bit of work with this boy now.Thats for sure.Getting out of the field was a bit of fun, with us having to disengage the trailer for a final effort at getting through the mud bath. Then the light pug for the trailer lights was put on upside down, and blew all me lights, and central looking n stuff. But thats another story, and the end of this stupid attempt at covering the hav's n hav nots,of what was quite an experience. But before i start puttn photo's on here.Could i just ask Sammy,(watshappening) one wee favour .Would you hire a bloody caravan next year mate.Or you'll end up in another field somewhere, where you can flippin snore till the cow's come hom. That was an awful racket mate. Right.Photoe's.
Some of the happy camper's.
