Hi

Having been out racing for more years than I care to remember, :b I have never seen dogs with thier legs strapped for extra support. Surely this adds to the weight so the are given a larger handicap? What are the benefits of stapping? (if thats what it is called)

Hi Dawn,

It's done to ensure the dog doesn't injure its stopper pads when stopping at the end. You don't need it when the ground is wet but in dry weather (remember summer) most people strap the stoppers. It depends on the dog but most stop so quickly they will skin the stoppers unless strapped.

Thanks Nigel thats something else I ve learned.

What an excellent idea.

I have a little bitch who injures her stop pads nearly everytime I take them out in the fields, so I may try this.

Where can i get the coloured binding from, it looks much better than just plain old white bandage, and I am sure i wont get comments from people like "ah whats she done to her legs, should she be running like that with injured legs?"

HI Nigel

A geat pic of Keeper in action, and the pic shows the forces excerted on the dogs legs as they take the bends, a perfect example of why pups should not be allowed to run a bend to young.

Hi Dawn

The strapping is an elaticated bandage called Vetrap. It sticks to itself so is really easy to put on. You can get it from horse supply shops or you could get it from one of these places

Hyperdrug

Vet Medic

Hi Nigel,

I like the photo. Sorry to be a geek (Mark shut up), but what camera and film did you use for the shot ? And how many shots did you need to take to get one of that quality ?

Many thanks,

Scott.
