Hi there,

Please, does anyone know whether pine bark chippings are harmful to dogs?

I have bark chipping in the garden, it has been there for few months now, but my dogs started to eat them like mad...also I noticed that their excrements are really black after eating them (I think its from the bark)...

Could be pine bark (the red color one) poisonous? Do I need to remove it from my garden?

thank you

My two shibas did this a couple of years back .

I had been using bark in the garden for ages and then got a bag of lovely crispy stuff (w00t) from Costco and that was when they started eating it . I had to clear the whole lot away and can't use it now . They have just moved on to the composted bark in my plant pots (w00t) which I've had to cover with stone chippings . Their stools were also black and it gave them belly ache .
