I was at the British Small Animal Vet Congress last week as our company has a stand there for 4 days - one of us attended the 'Plant Toxicity' lecture and I thought that I ought to post on here the top3 toxic plants to small animals...

1. Lilies - this does vary between the species but some are EXTREMELY toxic and account for by far the highest numbers of deaths per year

2. Cannabis ( (w00t) )

3. Daffodils - all parts are very toxic but especially the bulbs.

So please be careful everyone :b

Thanks for the info - do dogs actively eat these things, or is it only a problem when they are puppies? I ask because we have daffodils, and was wondering if I should pull them out before we get our dog!

Thanks Jo. LOL at cannabis - I thought foxgloves might have been in the top 3 but cannabis is obviously more widespread :- "

I thought that anything that grew from a bulb was toxic to small animals?

Apparently this is the classic situation when they ingest some and end up down the vets - so yes best moved!!! I have left my daff bulbs to dry out up on a shelf in teh shed now!!

Rae- These are the top 3 because of number of incidents I believe - Lilies are now top due to their increased popularity recently :(

i was just thinking about this the other day, we got our whippet last week and i had bought a load of bulbs to plant.........so thats for this :)

best get rid of the cannabis (w00t)
