there isnt really "the best " everyones opinions vary .

go to shows , look at the ones YOU like , get information etc then approach a breeder

there are books or web information on the breed standard , this should help when your looking for a show dog

:luck:

Go to shows, lots of them, and make up your mind which type, colours, breeding etc that you really like. Do go to a championship show, say Crufts, then you will see all the different types together. Then find out how the ones you prefer are doing at shows, because they dont all win at all the shows, thats why we keep going!

I actually think one of the first things you should do is read the Kennel Club breed standard, this sets out what the physical characteristics of the breed are - then you go to shows and see which ones you like best and fit your interpretation of the standard :D

Its not just about which ones catch your eye and you prefer, as some people may prefer whippets with hackney front action but that is not a reason to chosse to buy one like this as this is not a true characteristic of a whippet.

Phil Moran Healys book is really good as it has illustrations of the points of the breed standard.

I think this thread might also be interesting for you:

http://www.k9community.co.uk/forums/index....topic=26125&hl=

It also shows how varying people's preferences can be, as there are some widely divergent types represented in the thread, even though most fit the standard pretty well (at least some standard - you obviously need to focus on the KC standard).

if you would like to show your Whippet, you really need to attend few shows, preferebly the big ones. Also google "Whippet breeders" and visit as many of their websites as you can. Another good place to look is the Sandline breeders links, they also tell you which country they are. Here is the link

SANDLINE

I spent many nights going through this list, and when i got to Z, I started again. There are many very interesting sites. Also buy some books, have a look on Amazon, but there are other online booksellers like abebooks . Learn about Whippets so you have some idea what are you looking for. Make contact with the breeders who's dogs you like and take it from there :luck: :luck: :luck:
