what is it, why does it happen, why dont they race, anyone got some pics of them.

I am new to whippet racing just starting to learn so i ask what might seam silly qustions but an old post on bullys cort my eye when i have been going through them

wendy

I'm probally wrong as I don't do racing but I think its when one of the dogs try's to barge / have ago at the other dogs in the race.

;) dunno if im right but think i am. a bully whippet is one that someone might say is stocky not elegant like most whipps. maybe they r musclebound like there muscles r too big. im sure someone will correct me if im wrong. some bully dogs do actually race and some even turn out good. :D

yes carole your on the right lines, bully dogs occur due to genetics in the breeding that cause throw backs to when different breeds were introduced to the cross bread of whippets, these throw backs tend to have alot of muscle and sometime suffer from cramps, a trade mark of a bully is an undershot bottom jaw, this is where the bottom jaw is much shorter then the top and leaves a gap, some of them do still run, some pups that appear bully as pups can turn out to be slimmer then thought a good example of this would be sup scr ch nch Show Three, she has the under shot jaw but is a flying machine :D

this is a picture of spiders lady a bitch that runs at our club, she is bully but can still run very well, with a great temprement, she has the muscles and under shot jaw. this pic has been on before.

Something you pointed out Jade, their temprement, every bully i've known has had a really strong character.

Will see if i can dig some pic's out!

bullies-my definition-ugly, staff like creatures-big, wide heads and too much muscle-

We had a poodle that was under-shot :( not much muscle though :b

P.S You've probably gathered that I don't like staffs very much!

looks like a normal whippet to me beejay :D

we had a bully whippet a few years back, she looked just like a staff but with stick thin whippet legs she was overshot as well and the muscles on her head used to get cramp :( .

Height wise she was about 18 in and weighed between 33-36lb depending on what she'd stolen. temprament wise she was a nasty little bugger when racing, but she would only race in hot weather never raced in the rain or cold and when it came to exercise she'd only walk about 100 yds and lay down and refuse to budge.

she could clock up pretty decent times at gin pit and was probably the fastest trapper i ever had :)

i dont know many bullie but the ones i know have good temprements, spiders lady is soft as butter sleeps at the side of the track when racing is on, stands there dont make a noise before or when you put her in the traps, and for trapping and first 50 i dont think u get much faster, but the stamina aint that great :D

I dunno if this one of mine would be classed as a bully type.
He's somewhere between 19.25 and 19.5".  Racing weight 27lbs 12ozs.

In this photo he's been resting and isn't race fit.
