Poor old Holly lost the use of her back legs a few weeks ago and although I thought she had come to end of the road our wonderful vet changed her medication to PLT tablets and advised me to massage her and she's had a new lease of life :D

The PLT tablets worked almost immeadiately, but they do seem to be having a lesser effect now, I know all dogs are different but I'd like to know if anyone else has used them and how long they worked for. She seems hungry all the time too and her coat bearly fits (w00t) talk about steriods stimulating the appetite

im so sorry to hear that ray i really do hope holly feels better soon :huggles: :luck:

What are PLT tablets, sorry to be ignorant, and how old is the poor thing? It must be awful to have this problem, I have had the go right off their legs. :(

I googled PLT and found:

PLT or "prednoleucotropin" is a combination drug, "pred" being Prednisolone which is a steroid and the "leucotropin" being an anti-inflammatory and pain killing drugs.

Awwww bless little Holly she's such a trooper, she's lovely

Hope the tablets keep working even a bit to maake things easier for her :huggles:

Thanks, do hope all is well, I made a mistake in my first post, should have read "had them go right of their legs" Two of mine did that at a very old age! I let them go poor dears.

Fingers crossed for you. :huggles:

Yep that's the ones - especially good for spinal problems apparently, which is what Holly has. Thanks for the well wishes, it's not a case of her getting better I'm afraid :( - I'm just wondering how long they will work for (as they are having a lesser effect after only 3-4 weeks) before she has difficulties again. I'm hoping she will see the summer out and she can sunbathe in the garden....

Holly is approx 13 but also has a bit of a disability in that both her front legs were broken when she was young - the plates were left on and one was badly fitted so it deformed her leg and snapped the tendons in her foot. (We didnt have her till she was 9ish) She's done well to recover from the ops to remove the plates amongst other things and it's a miracle she's still here after all she's been through. :( Her back legs are weak and her spine is also curved as she's spent her whole life roaching off her front legs (which must have been so painful) and to make matters worse she tore the muscles in her back last year (when she took off after a deer :b ) and was then attacked earlier this year which has left her with the wobbles. She's had no luck :(

It was about 9 weeks but there really was no hope for him they were just to make sure he was comfortable and I think he was. He was active and happy right up to when we had to let him go ( he knocked his leg and that was it no more could be done :( ) He was also on lots of other drugs and we had rimadyl for if he had a bad day, we didn't have to use many of them.

All the best to you and Holly :huggles:

So sorry to hear this, I know she is very special to you. She has gone on for longer than I ever thought she would and has had a good four years with you. I hope she enjoys some warm weather lying in the sun :luck:

Holly sounds like a star to have coped with her difficult life :)

Here's hoping that the tablets work for her over the summer and she can enjoy happy days sunbathing :huggles: . :luck: to both of you

When my lovely old border collie lost control of his bladder due to old injuries in his hips, treatment from a vet who specialises in acupuncture enabled him to have an extra year of good quality life (and me not to be forever mopping up!). Might be worth a try if there is one in your area. It was worth every penny IMHO.
