My dog is 15 and although that's elderly she's always been good health. Until last year when she started drinking more and very recently went off her food. This week a blood test confirmed elevated results that indicate her kidneys are not functioning correctly. I've bought renal food but she's not interested. At the moment she'll only eat chicken and vegetables. She's sleeping more and not bothered about going out today, although happy yesterday. Has anyone got any words of wisdom or advice? The vet has suggested that this may not go on for long and we have to consider her quality of life. Which of course I agree with, but this seems to have happened so suddenly.

Would she eat her normal food, with a kidney support supplement (subject to your vet's agreement)?

Thanks for replying. No, she's totally off her normal food that usually she loves. I've ordered a supplement, will need to put it in the chicken. She's gone back to bed now, I'm heartbroken.

I'm so sorry your girl isn't well. It's a difficult call, but it may be that now is the time to spoil her silly - give her whatever she wants to eat, be it chicken & veg or ice cream and sponge cake. Focus on quality of life, rather than quantity.
