Hi, I wonder if any of you have any experience with a foot injury like this. This morning his foot had swollen up and a really sore and red lump had appeared which has got redder through the day and he has now got the same one on the other foot in the same place?

I was talking to someone this morning and they asked if we had changed his food recently (which I have) as they thought it may be down to a change in that especially wheat which is strange as I have changed him to Natures menu wholewheat mixer and meat.

He does dig so I thought it may be something to do with that but it did not come up straight away when he had been digging.

very strange??

Nana had one very like that- it was a grass seed that had worked it's way into her foot between the toes. We soaked her foot in warm salty water for five minutes 3 times a day for 4/5 days and it worked its way out.

That looks very much like something in there to me. Grass seeds can track a long way because of the barbs so i would keep a very close eye on it. Jan

Looks sore, as already said it could be a grass seed stuck in there causing an abcess / interdigital cyst to develop.

Bathing in warm saline should help it to pop and release the pus, but it's worth a quick visit to the vet. :luck:

Meant to add that sometimes these interdigital cysts develop for no reason and sometimes they reoccur but if a grass seed or foreign body is the cause then obviously it needs to be got out.

Just a quick update - I took him to the vets and she said it is interdigital cysts (top of the class Mazza) but because he has one on each foot in the same place then it probably is not caused by a foreign body. She reckons some dogs are simply prone to them so wants to see if they reoccur to then see if we can get at the root cause. I have been searching around the net and it is suggested that there does seem to be a link to food allergies so I am going to stop the wholewheat mixer to see if that makes any difference.

She gave me some anibiotics and antibacterial shampoo that I have to bathe his feet in twice a week for the next few weeks - cruel thing is that he hates water anywhere near to him :( so she recommended tying 2 plastic bags around his feet to soak for 10 minutes - should be interesting

Good luck with trying to find the cause. And good luck with the bathing!! :luck:

I hope he's better soon.
