PORTER

Porter is a 4 year old greyhound lad. As his name suggests, Porter is a stout, black dog at 29" to the shoulder and is in quite good condition at the moment. Porter was an excellent racing dog and won a total of 12 races in his 3 years on the track. As is the typical story of racing greyhounds, Porter was eventually outpaced by younger, faster dogs and became surplus to the requirements of his previous owner.

Porter is now safely retired and is looking for his forever sofa to relax on after all his hard work. He is a calm, friendly boy who has the air of having 'been there, done that' with all the goings on. He walks good on the lead, travels very well and is behaving very well with our other greyhounds.

Porter has spent his entire life so far in racing kennels, so adopters will need to give him a bit of time in the first couple of weeks after adoption to allow him to settle in to the completely foreign home environment. Greyhounds generally adapt very well to this change, and usually have mastered housetraining and the basic house rules after 2-3 weeks. Porter has not yet been tested with smaller dogs but this can be carried out prior to adoption if required. He is not cat friendly.

**UPDATE 06/2010**

Porter was fortunate enough to take part in the Kerry Greyhound Connection annual Sponsored Walk this year.

He was brilliantly well behaved with the multitude of other greyhounds and people at the walk, though right now he is not safe with small terrier and toy breeds of dog and will need socialisation in this area. Porter is not long off the race track and is still very keen with anything small and moving. This will decrease with time, but he will need lots of positive socialising with other breeds of dog for him to realise that dogs can come in small sizes.

He is fantastic with people, and is a placid but friendly boy. He can be a bit strong on the lead initially but this soon calms down after the initial excitement wears off.

Porter is a lovely calm boy who will make a fantastic, easy going companion for the right person.

Porter is currently in kennels in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This lovely boy deserves to win the prize all hounds dream about.... a home of his own.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Porter, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our information pack and adoption questionnaire. Thanks!

~~ KERRY GREYHOUND CONNECTION ~~

Kerry Greyhound Connection is a small voluntary organisation based in County Kerry, Ireland and Norfolk, England and operates through a network of volunteers. We can look after approximately 70 greyhounds at any one time, in both Ireland and the UK.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and given a full veterinary check before being adopted.

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Europe and the USA. We work hard to match the right hound to the right home, and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

We can be contacted via PM or through any of the following:
