I'm a full time assistant manager at a shop, which means I do work longish days. I'm aware that working full time can be really unfair on a dog. Im just trying to establish when I could have a dog and what breed would suit my situation. Does anyone work full time and have a dog? I'd give the dog an hours run every morning and evening and spend all evenings and weekends with the dog.

I've had a collie cross and a high energy terrier as a teenager so I'm not naive about exercise and companionship, and I'm interested to hear people's opinions and solutions on working the 9-5 and having a dog too.

I don't want to make any dog unhappy, so I'm not resolved on getting one at this point unless I'm sure I can get a breed that can sleep and relax while I'm out and enjoy 100% best care when I'm home.

I'm hoping that at some point I can get a dog that could be a shop dog at least occasionally so it doesn't need to be home alone. So a small people friendly breed that isn't too high energy. I love personality in a dog and I'm drawn to breeds like Irish terriers which is completely the wrong end of the spectrum! What small, toy breeds are great with kids , have lots of personality and won't feel cooped up indoors?

I've been looking at pugs, but as my terrier had copd a chronic breathing issue I'm terrified of breathing problems. What pug crosses, or toy breed crosses are suitable to maybe be a house/ shop dog. I was thinking a puggle as the snout would be longer and beagles are people friendly and medium sized.

What advice can people offer on toy breeds and pug crosses?

I will do plenty of research about each breed suggestion , and I'm not going to make any hasty decisions, just trying to have a good idea of possiiblties for fulfilling my dog dreams in the future!

Any suggestions welcome! Thanks, Ellie

Have you considered a shih tzu? Not everyone's cup of tea, but I think they're adorable!

They were also bred as companion dogs, very people friendly and a low energy breed :)
