Hi, I have a Tibetan Terrier puppy (she's nine weeks old). She has just had her first injection and now keeps on biting me and members of my family quite hard. I've been on various websites for help and tired what they've told me to do. For example: 'When she bites really hard give a high pitched yelp (if yelping doesn't work say 'too bad'). Your puppy should stop for a moment. You should Praise your puppy for stopping or licking you. Carry on playing then repeat the steps.'
It then says if this doesn't work give your puppy a time-out. Which is, if your puppy bites you hard stop playing and ignore her or move away for 10-20 seconds. After that you carry on playing with the puppy, and repeat the steps.
I've tried this all day for about 2 days, but she doesn't take any notice and carry's on biting really hard (I know that she won't understand straight away). If I do move away from her she follows me and jumps up to get to me, when she knows she can't, she sits down and barks. It doesn't help that my older brother likes to play rough with her and lets her bite him. When I told him that he needs to do what I've been doing when she bites really hard, he takes no notice and carry's on playing rough with her.
I've also tried giving her squeaky toys when she tries to bite me to distract her.
I really don't mind her biting me, as i understand that she is still a puppy and is teething but i'm worried that, she will think its okay to bite and bite my friends and the friends of the family and hurt them. Also I'm worried that when she's not a puppy any more she will think its okay to bite and really hurt someone.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Please help i'm really not sure what to do.
