how old does a puppy class go up to in racing & which opens hold a puppy class/ just getting my plans ready for this year & hoping to enter a couple of puppy clases or novice classes to get started, before moving into the "normal races" any help off the open addicts would be appreicated !

Hi Paul

Had to read you're post a few times till I realised you are after puppy races rather than shows? :wacko:

Theres only 1 real puppy race meeting in the Ped calendar and thats the Sussex puppy Derby for dogs (& bitch's) that are under 20 months old (and must be over 12 months old) and haven't won an Open or Champs Main Final.

Apart from that you will have to enter Maiden classes which are for dogs of any age that haven't won an Open or Champs Main Final, the Maidens are normally made up of young pups or slower dogs that are just out side the class needed for full open groups.

The best way to find out is to either get the Whippet news and see the ads for opens in there or go to the HOE rgularly and get the entry forms and have a look which state they are running Maidens as well as the Main & Vets racing.

I know the non peds run puppy races from I think 9 months old but you're wasting you're time entering any of them as you would be hoplessly out classed. :thumbsup:
