Anyone watch about the puppy farmer on Watchdog? Makes my blood boil :rant: :rant: Those poor people who had to go through all that with their tiny pups only to lose them

more needs to be done to stop these people, it should be against the law and more people should be educated so they no NOT to buy a puppy from these kind of people!

I didn't see it, but I've just looked on the link, I feel sick. Poor little pups.

What is the Kennel Club doing as well, surely it can't take too long on their database, to check how many puppies are being produced at the same address :rant:

I think people buy from places like these puppy farms, because they have it in their heads that "breeders are more expensive". They don't know, because they don't check it out, that breeders don't always "charge more" than a puppy farm, and with a breeder you are far more likely to get a healthy pup, properly reared, and with an excellent after-sales contact from a caring breeder.

How do you educate the dog-buying public?

the people buying puppies from farms like this, will end up paying MORE than from a proper breeder in vet bills anyway! makes no sense :angry:

I think part of the problem is that people can be scared of approaching breeders.......I know it doesn't make sense but I think people worry that buying a pup from a breeder is going to involve more vetting than adopting a child, and so look for somewhere thay can just 'buy' with no questions asked

I think it's a balancing act, and although breeders naturally want their pups to go to good homes - i think the perception of what makes a good home can be different.

I think breeders are thinking - will my dog get the love and attention it needs/can they afford the vets bills/is there somewhere safe for him/her to play - stuff like that

and people looking for a dog are thinking - they're going to want to see evidence of me being 'posh enough' to have one of their little dahlinks/ do i have an aga/ do my curtains match the wallpaper/ do i subscribe to 'Country Living' - stuff like that.

And so they go elsewhere, rather than risk being judged as not quite up to standard - with tragic results.
