this programme was on s4c last week,i really think it could make alot of difference to the general public thinking of buying a puppy off just anybody! next week looks better and will show people how bad the conditions that these poor dogs are forced to live in!

click on the little owl thingy to get english subtitles and cross post please everyone!!! people need to know what puppy farms are really like!

the owl worked for me

iv just finished watching it, and its well a bit of a witch hunt on one kennel, although it seems like the man deserves everything in it, it would have been better if it had looked at more than just the one. but it looks like next weeks braches out and from the clip, it doesnt look to be pleasent viewing :( :(

its a shame this programme wasnt on one of the main channels, so that the whole country could watch it and be aware of what goes on :(

sorry i cant watch things like this its awful i can only imagine what goes on :(

It didn't show anything bad, as in the conditions the dogs were kept in (though I dread to think what these were like), it was mainly people who had bought 'pedigree' dogs from a particular breeder wanting their money back when the dogs turned out to be crossbreeds.

The guy was a crook with previous convictions, selling dogs with forged papers from the back of a van, and deserves all the programme said about him. How he continues to get his breeders licence renewed year after year is anyone's guess :- "

Mind you, I didn't think the buyers came out of it well, either. One woman bought a Pom from him, then when it turned out not to be pedigree had RETURNED the dog to this awful man and swapped it for another Pom, and when that one turned out to be a crossbreed too returned that dog to him AND paid him extra money to swap it for a Pug, then was complaining that the Pug had health problems.

Sorry, but dogs aren't handbags to be taken back and exchanged like that, she obviously didn't care what would happen to the dogs at all, then to give this man more money after two bad experiences was just terminally stupid.

It breaks my heart to watch things like this too, I usually switch over at the really bad bits. I must say though by programmes like this being shown and putting related articles in the newspapers it educates people that haven't got a clue as to who they might be buying their puppies from.

I know in my local newspaper there are always puppies advertised and the bit CAN DELIVER always brings shivers down my spine. You'd thing it was a pizza being delivered   I suppose a lot of people that are ignorant to puppy farmers might think this is a convenient way of purchasing your puppy and hassle free, little do they know the consequences that might arise through this so called convenience :(

Trefor Jones needs to have his license revoked immediately

Altho' the viewing will be sad I will watch part 2.

FeeFee - I too was mad at that woman for taking 2 pups back & paying even more money for a pug!! I cannot quite equate loving poms with then changing to a pug.... :(

There are adverts in our local paper (more than I have seen all year) for crossbreeds (it's the fall out after the labradoodle!) for hundreds of pounds, and some ads say 'can deliver' or (even worse) 'ready for Christmas'

I wrote to the paper to say how irresponsible they are!

i thought the same thing, if i had been sold a dog which i though was ped and it turned out it wasnt, i dont think i could have returned it, after possibily weeks of bonding with it :(

my neighbours son recently bought a pom (this is why i found this so interesting) and at 12 weeks the vet said she was already the size of a fully grown pom

they paid £500 for her and she is "pedigree" but its not kc its dreampup or some weird pedigree site.

they had no clue what kc reg was and went along looking for a pure bred pet.

now they have found out there is nothing they can do, and nothing they want to do as they love the dog no matter what and would rather keep her than get their money back.

but its a same that people can be ripped of so easily :(

hi i watched the video

to me all licenced breeders are puppy farmers they can have as many litters as they want in a year i know of a puppy farmer who hasa lot of breeds has just had two litters of crossbred lhasa apso/s and is selling them off as pure bred lhasa apso's people have reportted them to the council but because they are good friends with the lady who hands out the licence they are getting away with it

its not fair on the people who are paying good money for the puppy they think they are buying a lhasa but they are not

I guess its only me then... I just find this way of treating dogs i.e animals out of order... as breeder or a dog owner, if I cant have my dogs in the house, I would not have that many dogs in the first place.

I think the comments about "their bed is to hard" is the LEAST to worry about!!!

Their life is NO life... I would not want to have a puppy from a mother who had not seen then outdoor more then a few mints.

And those poor dogs that were going in circles... shame on those ppl, shame on them, I hope God sees this and give them hell in next life if not this!!!!

I don't imagine there is anyone on this forum who are happy about the conditions those dogs are being kept in, but being realistic we know that the films have not shown how bad some puppies and breeding stock are kept in :(

But for these poor dogs to be kept without proper exercise stimulation nutrition and love is a horrible thing :(

This may well not be the worst case of puppy farmers but it certainly is not acceptable IMO, why the RSPCA or Council allow this type of breeding to continue is beyond me.

IMO the conditions that those dogs were living in is cruel, the fact they did not have enough food nor clean water illegal and cruel and those people should have all their dogs taken away and not allow to own animals, let alone breed.

It is about education because I would imagine anybody wanting a puppy would not want to buy it from people knowing that both the pup and its mother had to suffer.

From the look of the house the breeders certainly seemed to have enough space in their home, no doubt a comfy bed to sleep in and they seemed to carry enough body weight suggesting they ate well, why do they not respect that an animal needs the same.

Totally agree - I've seen worse, but that doesn't make this acceptable. Seeing those poor dogs who were just circling in their kennels really upset me, they looked so stressed and unhappy. :(

How anyone can imagine they will get a healthy well-balanced pup from these places is beyond me, and that puppy shop in Essex was awful, it makes me angry to think people can be stupid enough to go somewhere like that.

Sadly some people probably put more effort into choosing a new toaster than they do choosing a puppy

maybe if this practise was called intensive or battery puppy breeding then things would change but a 'puppy farm' has nice green fields with a stream and a chicken strewn farmyard with bright eyed plump puppies gamboling about with a kind eyed smiling farmers wife looking on with flour on her hands.

this is an interview with a man who 'farms dogs for sale'

when i first hear the term puppy farm, "nice green fields with a stream and a chicken strewn farmyard with bright eyed plump puppies gamboling about with a kind eyed smiling farmers wife looking on with flour on her hands." is not what i pictured in my head, i pictured cramped dirty cages full of puppies. maybe its because my uncle farmed battery hens so the nice green feild farm isnt what im acustomed to.

but dogs are mans best friend, they are members of your family, they are not somthing to be farmed like cows/sheep/hens. so i think puppy farm is the correct term for these places
