As a first time whippet puppy owner, I wonder if someone could answer some questions for me. What height, weight would you expect a 10week old bitch pup (coursing lines) to be? I appreciate that it is bound to vary a fair bit, but I am just looking for a ball-park figure. What about weekly weight gain? Luna is a real live-wire (w00t) but just doesnt look fat enough or eat enough! I have had lurchers for 20+ years ( a couple of them whippet crosses) and never had a moments concern with these matters with the puppies I have had in the past, so why am I so bloody paranoid about this one? I will get a picture of her up soon.

Keith.

Dont think you can really answer this as all whippet pups weigh different at 10 weeks, i think you will have to see what her litter mates are weighing, so you could ring the breeder, imo as long as you think she"s healthy enough and not lethargic or anything id stop worrying just enjoy her and good luck.

Hi Keith,

When you say coursing lines do you mean dogs than run under (or ran under) Whippet Coursing Club Rules or Sooty Sam type coursing lines?

a KC whippet bred to Coursing lines from dogs that coursed under NWCC rules would be expected to weight around 8-10lb's at 10 week old and would make around 22/24lb when fully grown.

a dog bred from coursing lines that are used for working ect like the Sooty Sam lines tend to be slightly bigger so would probably be say 10-12lbs at 10 wk old.

But like Paula says as long as you pup is eating well and is nice and lively then I shouldnt worry as whippets go through stages where one day they look podgy then they have a growth spurt and look thin and dangly.

hope that helps a little.
