Hi, new to the forum!

I'm getting a new puppy in a few weeks and the one I have my heart set on appears to have a level bite with the front teeth being level. The breeder initially wanted to send this dog abroad as a show dog but has now said we can take this one as it wouldn't be perfect for show. The breeder says there shouldn't be an issue for a pet dog (my intent) but I just want to do my own research rather than blindly taking someone's word for it. I'm struggling to find out what kind of issue this could be, if at all, long term. He has no issues with eating as is but is it risky taking a puppy without a bit of an over bite / scissor bite?

The dog is a keeshond.

First, I don't know the answer but I think someone else who uses this forum might - I wonder if knowing what you plan to feed might help inform the answer? I would imagine from watching my own dog that wet or dry food would present no problems but he might struggle to tear raw meat off bones if his bite wasn't quite right?

Hi, JoanneF. He will be fed raw nutriment food so soft mince like stuff.

I would ask the breeder if you can buy the puppy subject to it passing a vet check. This would mean you making an appointment with either your own vet or one that is independent of the breeder if they are some distance from you. A vet will give you advice on the severity of the under bite and how it will affect the puppy in its day to day life. The puppy can, at the same time, have all other areas of its body checked for problems giving you peace of mind.
