we r in the process of moving house and as the new house is bigger with a bigger back garden etc we r going to have kennels built 4 the dogs. my question is... do u think they wud settle? they have all been kept in the house since we got them they r aged 11 and half, 6 and a half, nearly 5, 2 and a bit and a year old. they will all be out in kennels in separate runs etc but they will b able to c each other. @ the mo they r kept indoors and when we r @ work they r in cages i think they wud have more freedom in kennels but just wondering if anyone else has put house dogs in kennels and did they settle?

Hi, we put up a kennel in the garden, its basically an adapted shed with raised beds and a run..one shed..one run..all 6 share..they love it, they are never left in it for long periods..max about 3hrs..the only thing is that they wont pee/poo..they hold it in and wait til we get home! My husband built it and put in raised shelves in the shed, each raised shelf has sides like a box and a duvet inside..there are raised feeders/water bowls etc. Below is a pic of it almost finished..it now has a perspex roof to protect from any rain etc..there is a heater and a radio in the shed part.

all of mine have the option of kennels and the house, with 8 dogs at times its a bit hectic here !!!! all mine bar 1 are happy in the kennels which have duvets, heat lamps, radio and the runs all face my room or the kitchen, so never really alone , i find it much easier when i have guests or need to go out etc , also i am allergic to dogs and at times i just need to breathe!!! my mabel doesnt like sleeping indoors but 4 of the 5 igs all live in at night in cages, the old girl sophie does as she wishes, in or out , its up to her , the whippet jessie likes to stretch out snuggled in her bed which is like a bunk bed wrapped in her duvet, so i would say if they have plenty of their things and was done steadily you should have no problems at all

i think some have the misconception that kennel dogs have no human interaction , this is certainly not true here as all have most of my time and at times far more then my kids!!! :b

we have dogs & bitches so wud need them separate 4 seasons etc, thanks to those who have given advice.

10 by 6 foot ordinary shed put up by me, nowt fancy but its clean bright and airy, sometimes when its warm sally my goldie kips in the shed all night, jill my whippy when first let out for a jimy, bombs in the shed comes and goes as her pleases, never locked in, but then again shes a young dog, nothing wrong with kennels as long as they are built correctly they will settle me thinks if you introduce the dogs in the right frame of mind, leave the kennel doors open let em go in and out on there own accord till they get used to the idea, do em good outside :luck:
