I bought a pup from Northern Ireland just before Christmas and the only stipulations there were, were imposed by the transporter and seconded by the breeder, who wanted the pup to have had both his vaccinations before he travelled.

my bitch is from Ireland brought over to the uk for me, no problems

keith

there are no legal restrictions as in quarantine ect in moving dogs between the England and Ireland (southern or northern)

as long as the pup is vaccinated most transporters will bring them over for you for around £70 they normaly meet you at set places ie: servicers on motorways or certain greyhound tracks. (if you want any numbers PM me)

or you could always nip over as a foot passenger on the ferry about £20 each way and collect it as long as its a pup in a box most ferries will let you carry it as a foot passenger or go in the car and have a weekend away.

Have a word with you local vet they are up on the laws surrounding all animals. They will also tell you what vacinations you need. They will also advise you about transporting your dog. A lot of dogs come from Ireland with no quarantine restrictions.

As stated above there are NO QUARANTINE REGULATIONS OR NEEDS in transporting a pup from Southern Ireland to England, you can either go over with your car on the ferry and bring the dog back which costs roughly £150-£200 for a car and up to five passengers or you can fly over and bring the dog back with you,it is £40 on top of your flight costs from N.I to England with BMI,out of Belfast City Airport or you can pay £150 for the dog to fly over unaccompanied but the crate that the dog travels in MUST be 5cm taller than the dogs head when stood upright and the dog MUST be able to stand up,turn around and lie down comfortably and also the crate has to be airline approved. BMI are the only airline from Northern Ireland that allow pets and if travelling a puppy it must be over 12wks of age and be fully innoculated or have a veterinary certificate stating that the puppy is fit enough to travel. I know most of the above refers to N.I as opposed to the South but I would assume protocol would be similar there.

Hope this is of some help.

I've made two return trips between Ireland and Britain with my dogs and no paper work was required, no questions asked. though I'm sure professional dog transporters would want to have paperwork in order.

but do be very careful about taking dogs as a foot passenger. Some ferries don't allow dogs unless they are in a car or small enough to be in a hand-held carrying case. Make careful enquiries beforehand if that is your plan.

as I live in Ireland, I'm curious about your new dog -- maybe you can p-mail some details?
