If the heaviest dog (therefore the one with the largest handicap) in the semis, is running in the blue jacket (because of his position in the heats)......Should he run from trap one (because of his handicap) or from trap two (because he is running in the blue jacket)......Or is it at the discretion of the racing manager?????

He runs from Trap 1 because of his weight if he is the scratch dog, whatever the colour of his jacket.

If your dog is running in the crossheats, semis, or finals, you look at his handicap for that race and put him in the apprpriate trap, regardless of jacket colour.

Hi John.

The dog due to the programme would run in the blue jacket but if he was the heavyest dog in that perticular race he would run from the back trap? (thats if he was a clear heavyest dog ie: he's 32lb against say 3 otheres that are say 29lb)

hope that explains what you wanted to know?.

it's DEFINATLY NOT down to the racing manager.

So the "back trap" is ALWAYS trap 1???

Not in all cases, but I'm not allowed to say much at the mo cos I know nothing about racing and I'd hate to be giving unwanted advice :D

The handicap always takes precedent over coat/trap colour. The only time jacket colour counts is when two or more dogs have the same handicap.

So if Red (1) is off the front and lets say Blue, White and Black are 2 yards back, they will be placed 2,3,4 or 4,3,2 depending on which side a club draws to.

And at the Champs they will be drawn 1,2,3,4 ....... unless of course there are seeded runners :- "
