Two days ago I adopted a cat from a shelter. I have a little dog at home. How should I introduce my new cat to the family dog?

Do you know how your dog is with cats, and if the cat is used to dogs? The important thing is that neither should be able to frighten the other, so you will need to manage it carefully. Stairgates can be invaluable so they can see, hear and smell each other without getting too close. Also, it's good for the cat to have high places they can retreat to, such as cat stands (assuming your dog can't jump that high).

A crate or pet carrier can help, but not if it means the cat feels trapped and can see a 'monster' approaching.
