On average, at what age would you expect a whippet pup to reach its full height?

Cheers

Keith.

Depends on the line but you can tell by when they have no knobbles on their knees, once these have flattened out it means the growth plate has closed and therefore they cannot grow upwards any more!!

All mammals grow from their feet upwards (i.e. the long bones grow first) and then from their tails forwards (short bones). This is why feet often look enormous on puppies. For a Whippet size dog I would reckon upwards growing is probably complete at about 7 months.

Zair my lurcher pup still has a way to go then - his knees are VERY knobbly!!!

I've been pondering the same question as Tancho about my 5 month old pup.

Dessie I dont want to sound dumb but what do you mean by "knees" on a whippet?

Do you mean the stifle on the back legs? if so my pup is very knobbly as such will probably have a way to go to reach her full size

No on the front legs, pastern or wrist joint, if you prefer to call it such!!! There will be growth plates on the hock and stifle joints but these are not so obvious to the naked eye as the wrists on the front leg.

Luna has a bit of growing left then, she is about 18" at 5 1/2 months and still has knobley knees. At the moment her back end looks about 2" above her front end, a couple of weeks ago it was the other way round :D

Yes, they often get 'bum high' and then hopefully it evens up again!!
