Sorry to be dumb but if a dog is celebrating her first birthday on the day of a one day show would she still be eligible to enter Puppy class or would she have to go in Junior?

ie does she become a "Junior" on her birthday or the day after? 8)

SHE WILL HAVE TO GO IN JUNIOR

THE DAY THEY ARE ONE YEAR OLD THEY ARE OUT OF PUPPY

I had to check this with the Kennel Club a few years ago, and at that time, I was told this:

On the day a puppy is 12 months old (ie its first birthday) it is still eligible to be shown in Puppy. (But obviously it will be its LAST day of being shown in Puppy class).

Coincidently I had to check on this as I plan to enter my dog at the NEWS Open in April on his first birthday. Puppy Class is for dogs "not exceeding twelve calender months of age on the first day of the show"(from the schedule). As he will be exactly twelve months that day, but not exceeding this age, he can still enter puppy I am reliably informed. Obviously the day after he would have to go in Junior. I admit it is a bit unclear and I hope I don't end up in the wrong class! :b

The definition says 'not exceeding' so you are ok.

Yes as all others have said you are able to enter puppy.

This question is related to something I noticed the other day in the National schedule.

As we all know - "Puppies under 6 months of age on the first day of the show are not eligible for exhibition." First day of the National is the 8th May and in the schedule they have clearly printed after the above statement i.e.born after 8th November 2007. So not eligible on the day they are 6 months old, but the day after.

The way I read that is....born after 8th November (ie 9th November) make them 6 months old on 9th May therefore the second day of the show......hope I'm correct here :sweating:

A puppy born on 8th November is eligle for puppy, or in the case of this show, minor puppy.

If the pup is 12 months old on the first day of the show, its OK for puppy

Yes, Annie has read it right. If born on 8th November, can go to first show on 8th May

i always thought that on the pups 1st birthday it couldnt go in puppy as officially its then 1 year old

Yes it can - it's not exceeding 12 months.

Also, if for example the pup has it's first birthday on the first day of the show - it will still be eligible for puppy if the Hounds are on the second, third or fourth day

very confusing! I thought that 'puppies under 6 months on first day of show are not eligible' meant that they couldn't be entered in that entire show, be it a 1 day or 4 day show

thank goodness I ain't got to worry about that too often :- "

 edited to say, I've just re-read this and it makes less sense now that it did the first time, so am giving up :p :b

Shows are taken from the first day.

It would not be whatever groups are not judged on the first days fault.

ie if Toys & terriers are on 1st day and hounds on 3rd day, it is not their fault that the society decide to schedule them on the 3rd day so why penalise a whippet puppy etc because it can't be shown on a day it is not scheduled for.

I hope you all understand what I am trying to say.

A Whippet puppy born on 1st January can be shown at a show where the first (or only) day is 1st July regardless of the date that Whippets are scheduled.

Similarly it can still be shown in Puppy classes where the first (or only) day of the show is 1st January regardless of the date that Whippets are scheduled.

This is what I was trying to say in my rambly way

Yes

if your puppy is not 6 months on day 1 of show but is on 2, 3 or more it cant be entered but if your puppy is 12 months on day 1 it can still go in puppy if you are on day 2, 3 or more.

That's exactly what I would have thought but the National schedule actually says that although the first day of it's show is the 8th of May only puppies born AFTER the 8th November are eligible for puppy. Not puppies born on the 8th November -This is for puppies being shown on any day of the show. I know it sounds crazy but have a look. Although that reasoning would agree with a puppy still being a puppy and not a Junior on the day of its first birthday.
