Hi Flapper

I can't offer you a puppy, but rather some insights into whippet racers in general. If you troll through the many pages in here you will see a recurring theme - people who are soft in the extreme about their whippets (I was going to say head but that goes WITHOUT saying!)

We breed our whippets and absolutely HATE having to sell on the ones we are not keeping, and to keep the disappointment as tollerable as possible we sell to friends, and friends of friends etc. If no tenuous link exists and they HAVE to go to a stranger, then most of us would want to know the new prospective owner's life history and hold the deeds to his/her house as security!

I'm sure you can see where I am going with this - you really need to tell people a bit more about yourself and what you will be doing with the puppy. Please - I am not questioning your integrity - just pointing out some simple facts. I am sure your intentions are good, it's just that we are a suspicious lot when it comes to our whippets!

That made me laugh Ian - but it is so true!

Shame though as we have to encourage new people to the sport. I have to admit I was horrified when Dennis Mayger suggested that I should let him know when my bitch had puppies, as he always get enquiries. Mine all went to friends too!

Yes Flapper - do tell which area you're in, and where you are likely to race etc. I'm just interested - I have no puppies, or plan any in the future, but Ian is right, everyone will want to know everything about you, down to your shoesize!! Exagerating of course, but if you know someone in racing already that will be a start.

Good luck in getting a puppy, and becoming one of the "in" crowd! :luck:

:D - my exact thoughts too when I read your post Flapper. No offence meant - it's just that I am sure not many people will answer you without knowing more about you.

... and I hesitate to say this because I realise it might also cause offence, but you said on an earlier post that you were getting a puppy from the sooty sam line and how much you were looking forward to it, even gave the date you were picking up the pup - which must mean that you've changed your mind and let down that breeder.

I think that if you're really keen on racing, it would have been a good idea to do your research first, before you got to the stage of having to disappoint Mike Brown in Wales - who you say has been so helpful to you :(

Of course I might be totally wrong and you are now getting your Sooty Sam pup AND another one for racing - in which case, I apologise profusely... and say, hurray!

no offence taken at all,we admire all of you for saying it how you feel about your beloved whippets,we show and breed bulldogs all over the country and own 5 of them,we also have a pug welove dearly so we know where you are coming from as i too turn people daown if i think they arnt suitable ! we are not letting mike brown down as we are excited about this little girl coming to us, we are merely trying to learn more about good lines etc. we have owned greyhounds in the past that we raced and mark has been brought up with whippets all his life from childhood. hope this puts everyones mind at rest, thanks anyway...flapper

oh good for you - keep us up to date with how things go for you
