I was recently at the Scottish Derby event for non-pedigree whippets. Over the space of 9 days there was racing on both Sat. and Sundays and on the Wednesday between the two weekends. At a set time on non-racing days there were opportunities for schooling and trialing dogs. Tents and caravans were allowed on the field near the track, with access to toilets and showers and many people did camp (I shared a wee tent with two dogs for 10 days). I found the crowd very friendly even if they did sneer at pedigreeds occasionally!

So is there anything similar in the world of pedigree whippet racing? I don't have a racing club near me, so I am prepared to travel if there is a situation where we can race or school at weekends and also sometime during the the week in between.

Also what clubs/racing venues have heats to accommodate both pedigreeds and non-peds?

Where are you Macha?

I live in Ireland so it doesn't matter so much where the racing is, just that there is enough going on to make the travel worthwhile, and that it takes place during our school holidays (we have all July and Aug off as well as Easter week)

also there might be someone else interested, so replies from anywhere are welcome (though for me Scotland and N Wales are most accessible)

There are 2 Opens in Cornwall in August Macha - quite a few of the racers enter both and stay down there for the week in between. 21st and 28th although the Lizard one on the 21st closes today.

I don't know if midweek racing/trialling is organised or not as I haven't been there during the week before this year.

what events would you suggest for next year, Easter or summer time?

my pup is only 10 months old, so he'll be in his prime next year - though I don't know if I'll be able to get him any practice with a lure in the meantime, let alone coming out of a trap
