Anyone got any tips for racing their dogs with muzzles when the dogs have got cuts and scabs present??

I was thinking about just putting some vet tape round the muzzle to stop the rubbing. etc

If anyone has any tips from previous experience they would be much appreciated

i have same problem ,,,with one off my dog,s,,,he hit,s the lure to hard at end

usally pll,s just tape muzzel up best they can,,to prevent it getting much worse

u can also try diffrent type,s of racing muzzel,s---( there,s a plastic one that fitt,s all//// if u are using the wired classic design muzzel ???,,,u can get it plastic coated

but if u have a dog that go,es in hard at end ,,,there,s not much u can do to prevent it,,the only thing i do after race meeting is treat it,,,and on to the next race meeting

Thats the best thing to do tom wrap vet wrap around the muzzle i have done it in the past and it does help a bit

Ive been using the "plastic coated wire muzzles" from Jans Greyhound gifts, no need for vet-wrap with these bad boys..soft as putty at the right contact points !

Worth a nosey at my young chum !

Still trying to get the right cobination of being a lurcher owner and rocket scientist at the same time :b

Hi Tom,Ive been using the "plastic coated wire muzzles" from Jans Greyhound gifts, no need for vet-wrap with these bad boys..soft as putty at the right contact points !

I would say it depends how hard your dog hits the lure - I tried one of the plastic coated wire jobbies and in just one run my lad bent the end of it round 90degrees to the left, which left me not happy about it going "sproing" and breaking totally, and/or hurting his nose and eyes. So I stick to the "Australian Lightweight Racing Muzzles" - also from Jan's - which I have to replace about every three or four runs, but I just feel safer with him in those. He is too broad headed for the "walking-out" greyhound muzzles and the Baskervilles aren't deep enough and are very heavy.

Its all sorted now. It was for one of my dogs that was going to be coursing who still had a un-healed war wound. I was just concerned about some of the muzzles irratating the cut or maybe not protecting if he hit the lure.
