Im realy enjoying my Whippet and would like some advice on racing and coursing. He is only a few months old but id like to get as much info and decide on what id like him to do in the future.Would he be able to do both or just the one and how would i know if most important he is enjoying it??

Hi,

do you know what his breeding is? That might give a clue as to the sort of things he might be good at. Personally, I think racing and coursing require very different skills; coursing is not just a question of speed, whilst racing is, to a higher degree.

both his parents are racing dogs,as ive lost his pedigree im unable to give names until i get a new one

In that case, give racing a try, if you have a club near you. To be honest, most people do what is accessible to them unless they are very serious. You can give both a try; give him a few trials at each when he's old enough and see how he does. Why don't you post in the peddie racing forum? People might be able to tell you where your nearest racing club is. There might be some people there who own some relatives as well.

Best wishes, and goodluck with him :luck:

I race as there is no coursing near here. I have traveled to the occasional coursing meeting. My dog loved the coursing and loves his weekly racing. Don't worry about knowing if you'r dog enjoys it ...... you'll know! :luck:

I agree you'll know if your dog enjoys it because if he doesn't he won't do it

Mine do racing and coursing and they love both, if you can, take him along to any club you have access to while he's young to get him used to the noises and atmosphere so then it's not such a shock when he's old enough to take part, you can also get good advice from members and ask any questions you have

Good luck in whatever you decide to do :luck:
