RAMBO
Rambo is a 2 year old greyhound boy who was not fast enough for the racetrack. He is a lovely big fawn boy with striking eyes and a soft coat.
Despite his tough-boy name, Rambo is a huge teddy bear of a dog and absolutely adores his cuddles. He is a very people-centric dog and really enjoys being around you. He has been treated well in his racing kennels and is very used to being handled.
Rambo likes to play and is just starting to discover what toys are for. He gets on very well with the other greyhounds in our kennels and hasn't caused any problems. He will need to be tested with small dogs, however, to see if he is safe with them. Often ex-racing greyhounds take a bit of work on socialising to realise smaller breeds are in fact dogs as they would never have seen them before. He has not yet been tested with cats but this can be carried out prior to adoption if needed.
Rambo’s litter sister is Zola, another fawn greyhound in our kennels, and they make a beautiful pair. They can be homed together or separately.
Rambo has spent all his life so far in racing kennels, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding during the first couple of weeks and allow him time to get accustomed to the new home environment. It usually takes 1-2 weeks for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.
Like most greyhounds, Rambo will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs who are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
**UPDATE: AUGUST 2010**
Rambo is still waiting for his forever home, but is doing very well in kennels. He continues to love his play time romps in the paddock with his houndy friends, and is always up for some fun and games. He loves running after toys and always tries to get you to chase him. He is a very sociable dog and is going to make a fantastic pet for someone.
**UPDATE: NOVEMBER 2010**
Rambo has now travelled across to the UK where he waits for his forever home, ideally with his sister Zola. We would like to find these two their forever home together as they get on brilliantly and make a really striking pair.
Rambo is a very friendly boy and loves to give hugs… even though we know he shouldn’t! He is a bit more confident than his sister Zola and is in a way her rock, giving her confidence when she is a bit shy.
Rambo is very good with all dogs, large and small, and is definitely ready for his forever home. Rambo and Zola are in a foster home together and are doing very well in the home environment.
This gorgeous lad is currently in a foster home in Norfolk, UK. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting the gorgeous Rambo, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our information pack and adoption questionnaire which must be filled out prior to adoption. Thanks!
