Hi all,

I'm new here and have a query.

One of my dogs ate rat poison less than a week ago - I took him straight to the vets and they said basically if he rests up for a fortnight and takes 2 pills daily, he will be fine (thank god). Anyway, the vet gave him a calcium injection in the scruff of his neck and ever since he has been really swollen up there and over the joints of his front paws (what I would call shoulder blades).

He's in pain and won't let anyone touch his head/back, but he still acts a little scamp which is good.

Has anyone else been in this horrible situation and know if it's normal for swelling? Any advice would be great - thanks.

Many years ago my little cocker had eaten a lot of rat poison. My boss was openly putting rat bait down daily and unknown to me my little dog was walking around the buildings each day eating the stuff.

Any way, luckily she was bitten by another dog and the wound would not stop bleeding. A visit to the vet revealed warfarin poisioning. (this must have happened 40 years ago so can't be 100% accurate) she would have been given vitamine K injections to help the clotting but did not start getting better until after she had a blood transfusion. She recovered and was fine afterwards.

I don't remember any calcium injections though but as I say this must have been 40 years ago.
