As I do not get the gazette.I am hoping that someone can provide me with the registration numbers for whippets for the following years.

2005, 2006, and 2007.

Also does anyone know what the population of whippets is in the UK?? Is there a census for dogs?

Or does anyone have a guess?

Thanks in advance.

I've got the Breed Records Supplement around somewhere but can't find it. I know we talked about this when it came out, but I've spent the last half hour searching the board and can't find it. Hopefully someone will have theirs handy.

Here's what I do have from another board

For 2007 there were a total of 3,043 whippets registered, that is an awful lot. No other hound breed comes near it. Going back to 1998, 1,619 whippets were registered!

Thanks Wendy....that's great

How about the whippet population??

Any guesses? No prizes because I don't know the answer. (w00t)

Given those figures I my guesstimate would be  21,500.

HIGHER, HIGHER!!! (w00t)

I think its nearer 25,000 - there must be lots of whippets that are not on that list, any born before 1998 for a start (I've got one lying on the bed behind me -_- ) and I believe its not unheard of to occasionally find an unregistered litter :- "

I've only used the figures for registered whippets as they are the only certainty.

I have also estimated that the average life-span according to the KC is 12-15 years. Of those 20,548 for the 10 years shown how many do you think will have died, for whatever reason.

I'm still sticking to my 21,500 for KC registered whippets. BUT my OH is a pure mathematician and my youngest is studying economics so I'll give it to them to look at tonight in case I've made a right mess of it. (w00t)

That's 3 :- "

Ooooh just remembered......one of my customers has a white bitch but I'm not sure if she's KC registered as she didn't get any paperwork or even a pedigree with her

Where do UK Whippets rank relative to other UK registered breeds?

Here in the USA, we have been very consistent between about 59th and 65th for decades, although we are much better represented among breeds active in conformation (which means that a high percentage of our litters born and registered are bred for the purpose of competition).

For example, the dachshund is a much more popular breed here with the pet-owning population, but Whippets nearly always outdraw them at shows.

Whippets are 19th all breeds and 1st in the Hound Group for numbers registered. They are also top hound I would think at most championship shows.
