Of all my whippet books this one is my favourite and I keep finding myself looking at a photo on page 63 of a bitch wearing 4 jacket called I think Nose to The Ground, my query is about her breeding.

I think she is absolutely beautiful and wondered if she would have any lines I would recognise in her pedigree (my knowledge is only show) unfortunately I don't know anything about racing lines

I wondered if anyone with racing knowledge remembers her? I am totally smitten

Jenny

She was a very pretty little 18lb blue fawn bitch bred by her owner Steve Berg. He mated her once to one of our dogs but she didn't get in whelp which was a shame and her owner stopped racing soon after that as his partner was ill. She was a sister to Model Citizen and Lighthouse Eclipse both of whom bred on and have puppies racing now. I think they all look quite similar too. Her parents were WCRCh Kerrys Boy and WCRCh Ear To The Ground.

Here's her pedigree. I've kept it to KC registered names rather that racing names so that your more likely to recognise some of them.

Thanks Judy for the pedigree and information also thanks to Beejay for the information sent. This is the reason K9 is so great all the expertise it holds.

Thanks again

Hi Jenny, I am Steve Berg and I bred W.C.R. Ch.Nose To The Ground, unfortunately she passed away last December. Her pet Name was Sheba and her pedigree name was Townshend Chivas Regal. She was born on 28/05/1995 one of a litter of three. Her Dam was my own dog Pippawood Spanish Heath bred by Daphne Kitchen(racing name W.C.R.Ch. Ear to the Ground. Her Sire was Cassaloma Perrys Boy (W.C.R.Ch. Kerrys boy. She was line bred from W.C.R.Ch. & V.C. Jolly (Cassoloma Sea Pigeon). If you would like a photo copy of her pedigree e-mail me your e-mail address asnd I will send it you.. My email is steve.berg@hotmail.co.uk

I remember WCRCh Nose t the ground. She was an excellant bitch who was runner up in the 1997 whippet news top ten. She was only beaten by the mighty WCRCh Black Diamond Queen, and with 90 whippet news points would have won the competition in most years. She also happened to be around at the same time as WCRCh Mona Lisa and WCRCh Firebird, and the three of them had some great battles in the 18lb group. Sad to hear she's gone.

Hello Steve. Nice to see you on here

Very sad to here Sheba has left us though. She was a dear little thing and I know you and Jean had a lot of pleasure from her. At least she is well remembered.

Hello Steve, Thank you for posting the information. She is in my mind as the sort of whippet bitch I would like to own, when I read your post last night, I had another look at her on Page 63 and read the whole of the chapter again. Have you a picture of her you can put on K9 for everyone to see, at least now I can call her Sheba and not Page 63. I'm sorry she is no longer with us but what a great whippet she was, and how lovely that those who met her remember her with such fondness. Judy and Beejay gave me the information regarding her pedigree and I remember many of her showing ancesters, I just wish I had met her.

Jenny
