RHETT

Rhett is a 5 year old greyhound lad who is the last in a total of 9 greyhounds surrendered to KGUK to be rehomed. He has spent the last 5 years kennelled in a backyard, and is now very much looking forward to some home comforts in his life. Rhett is a lovely gent of a hound, with distinguishing silvering on his face and a thick black coat that we hope will get some shine to it once he leaves his kennel life behind him.

~ Personality ~

Rhett may look like an older lad, but he is still full of fun and loves to play. He seems to be relishing his change in circumstances and is like a big goofy puppy. He has a favourite toy called a Wiggle Giggle, which he takes to bed with him at night. Rhett will also chase and catch a ball, though is still at a loss as to why he should bring it back to you!

This boy is an absolute delight, and has a wonderfully quirky personality that is sure to keep you very entertained. He absolutely loves people, and will follow you everywhere.

~ In the Home ~

Rhett is sadly still in our kennels and has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to adjust. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. This boy is sure to never look back once he discovers the comforts of a soft sofa.

Rhett’s ideal home is one where he would have company most of the day, be it human or canine. He is extremely soft and affectionate and has the potential to become a clinger and develop separation anxiety if coddled too much. He is generally very amiable with other dogs and would benefit from the company of another furry friend, especially if he is to be left for frequent periods of time. Rhett truly has a heart of gold, and will be a fantastic friend to whoever gives him space on their sofa.

~ Other Animals ~

Rhett is very good with other dogs, large and small, and is very polite and gentle around them. He is well used to greeting other dogs and knows his manners, but does expect manners in return, and will give a wee grumble if another dog is very boisterous and jumping at him. These grumbles have never had any follow-through, but we feel that Rhett would be best homed with another dog of a similar age, rather than a young playful puppy. He is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~

Like most greyhounds, Rhett is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He walks well on the lead and does not pull.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

~ Where Am I? ~

Rhett is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Rhett is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

If you are interested in adopting or short-term fostering Rhett, please email me (Tam) on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Thanks!

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 greyhounds at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and given a full veterinary check before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.

Our Website: www.kerrygreyhounds.co.uk

If interested in one of our hounds, please EMAIL me for our adoption application form and information pack. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then contact you via phone or email to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail.

If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. I can be contacted through the following email:
