ROMEO

**UPDATED: 6TH OCTOBER 2013**

Location: Foster home in Hertfordshire, UK.

Key Points: Bright as a button, social and friendly, content & undemanding, lovely gentleman, learning about the home, good with other dogs, happy & confident.

The wonderful Romeo is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who got a very lucky escape from the needle after a few years on the flapping track. He is now seeking a loving home to call his. Romeo has been with us for 2 months now and his dull, dead kennel coat is gradually being brushed out. Underneath his newer coat is so soft and shiny. Romeo is around average height for a boy at 28” to the shoulder. He has a wonderfully alert expression, and is bright as a button.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Super dog, loving and affectionate, bright and happy, content with life, social, sweet.

Well, what can we say about Mr Romeo!? He is a wonderful boy with a big personality, and is a complete ladies’ man to boot! He loves his cuddles, loves his food, loves his walks and well, just loves life! He doesn’t seem to have understood yet that he can take food from people’s hands, but he happily works and trains for praise. Romeo is a great pick-me-up after a stressful day at work, just 10 minutes with this laddie and you’ll have a huge smile on your face, guaranteed! All his needs in return is a warm bed and some daily lovin’s.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Recently entered foster home, adjusting well, happy, social, learning rules.

Romeo has just moved into a foster home where he is finally getting to experience home comfirts for the first time. He is adjusting very well and taking the huge change in routine and living quarters in his stride. He is happy, confident and social, truly loving all the attention he’s getting now compared to life in a kennel. Romeo is starting to learn the house rules and housetraining is coming along nicely.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Great with other dogs, friendly, social, ok with smalls but watch if getting overexcited.

Romeo has been very good with the other dogs he has met while with us, and really enjoys getting to romp and mooch around with his canine foster siblings (3 other greyhounds). He is generally good with small dogs but can feed off their energy levels and become overexcited himself at times. This will dissipate when he gets more used to seeing the smallies. He is generally a really happy boy who wants to make friends with everyone, especially the ladies!

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Very social, loves making new friends, gentleman on the lead, ok traveller.

Like most greyhounds, Romeo will be a total couch potato and wont not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. Romeo walks very well on the lead and is a pleasure to have as company. He is good in the car as well and settles quickly for longer journeys.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are very calm, mannerly dogs that are used to being handled. They can fit into a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Am I? ~

Romeo is currently in foster care in Hertfordshire. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Romeo is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:

Email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk. Emails are usually replied to within 24hrs.
